Before Sharpsburg
From Johnston County, he was conscripted as Private, Company C, First North Carolina Infantry on 15 July 1862 in Raleigh.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was wounded again, at Chancellorsville, VA, shot through his elbow, his arm paralyzed on 3 May 1863. He was afterward home on furlough until transferred to the Veteran Reserve Corps in December 1864.
After the War
In 1880 he was a farmer at Selma in Johnston County, NC.
