Before Sharpsburg

Age 33, from Orange County, he was conscripted as Private, Company F, First North Carolina Infantry on 15 July 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the right groin in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and captured.

The rest of the War

He was paroled at Fort McHenry, MD on 18 October and sent to a hospital in Richmond, VA. He was formally exchanged on 10 November and furloughed for 40 days on 17 (or 22) November 1862. His furlough was extended beyond April 1863 and he was listed as absent wounded into September 1863, then in a hospital in Raleigh. He was furloughed again through at least the end of 1864 with no later military record.
