Age 34, from Guilford County, he was conscripted as Private, Company A, First North Carolina Infantry on 15 July 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was captured at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863 and first held at Fort Delaware. He was transferred to Point Lookout, MD on 18 October 1863 and died there of disease on 5 February 1864.
