Before Sharpsburg
Age 23, from Wake Forest, he enlisted as Private, Company I, First North Carolina Infantry on 18 July 1861 in Forestville.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and captured.
The rest of the War
He was back with his Company by December 1862. He was captured again, at Spotsylvania Court House, VA on 12 May 1864 and a prisoner at Point Lookout, MD. He was transferred to Elmira, NY on 3 (or 6) August 1864 and released on 27 June 1865 after taking an oath of allegiance.
