Age 27, from Wake County, he was conscripted as Private, Company G, First North Carolina Infantry on 15 July 1862 in Raleigh.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was absent wounded, sick, or on furlough to at least April 1863, then absent without leave to at least February 1864. He died of pneumonia on 15 May 1864 in a hospital in Gordonsville, VA.
