Charles M. Freeman

He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant, 2nd United States Infantry on 5 August 1861 and promoted to First Lieutenant on 1 November 1861.

He commanded Company E of the 2nd US Infantry at Antietam.

He was promoted to Captain on 20 October 183 and was honored by brevet to Major, USA on 13 October 1865 for his war service.

He continued in Regular Army service briefly after the war but was "wholly retired" on 18 April 1866.
