From East Hartford, he enlisted as a Private in Company A, 16th Connecticut Infantry on 14 July 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was captured at Plymouth, NC on 20 April 1864, was a prisoner at Andersonville, GA, and was paroled on 30 November 1864. He was discharged on 30 June 1865.
