Before Antietam

From Suffield, he enlisted as a Sergeant in Company D, 16th Connecticut Infantry on 11 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862 and was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant of Company B on 20 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to First Lieutenant on 1 December 1862 and to Captain of Company C on 26 January 1863. He was captured at Plymouth, NC on 20 April 1864 and was paroled on 10 March 1865. He was mustered out on 24 June 1865 at New Berne, NC.
