From Hartford, he enlisted as First Sergeant of Company B, 16th Connecticut Infantry on 15 July 1862.
On the Campaign
He was in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862 and was promoted to First Lieutenant of Company G the same day.
The rest of the War
He resigned his commission on 14 February 1863.
