Before Antietam
In 1860 he was an 18 year old in East Windsor, CT; his father Nathan was a spinner in a mill. He enlisted as a Private in Company G, 16th Connecticut Infantry on 5 August 1862.
On the Campaign
He was captured in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was paroled on 6 October 1862. He was captured again, at Plymouth, NC on 20 April 1864 and was a prisoner at Andersonville, GA. He was paroled on 10 December 1864 and discharged on 7 September 1865.
