Before Antietam

A farmer in Stafford, he enlisted as a Private in Company I, 16th Connecticut Infantry on 23 July 1862.

On the Campaign

He was in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862 and was promoted to Sergeant on the next day.

The rest of the War

He transferred to Company A, 3rd Regiment, Veteran Reserve Corps on 4 July 1864 and was discharged for disability on 22 July 1865.

After the War

He was in Hennepin County, Minnesota by 1876 and to at least 1884, but by 1892 he was in Lincoln County, Oregon. In 1900 he was a dairy and fruit farmer at Big Elk, Lincoln County, and in 1910 he had retired and was living there with his son William and family.
