From Coweta County, he enlisted as a Private, Company D, 53rd Georgia Infantry on 6 May 1862 in at Coweta, GA.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to CS General Hospital #22 in Richmond, VA on 18 October 1862 and was there to at least 4 January 1863, by then being treated for smallpox, then at Howard's Grove Hospital to 26 March, when he was sent to the Smallpox Hospital in Richmond. He was sent to the CS Army hospital in Danville, VA on 4 May - admitted for a gunshot wound. He was transferred again, to Atlanta, GA on 16 June 1863, and furloughed home, date not given. He died there in July 1863.
