Before Sharpsburg

An 18 or 19 year old farmer, he enlisted as a Private in Company A, 53rd Georgia Infantry on 10 May 1862 in Griffin, Spalding County, GA.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the side in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September.

The rest of the War

He was in a hospital in Richmond, VA by 14 October 1862 and sent home on furlough to recover soon after. He was on detail to Brigade Headquarters in late 1863 and for much of 1864, and was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.
