Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 34 year old farmer at Conyers, GA. He enlisted in Newton County as a Private in Company B, 53rd Georgia Infantry on 1 May 1862. He transferred to Company E on 15 August.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September and captured there.

The rest of the War

He was exchanged at Aiken's Landing on 10 November 1862 and was listed as absent in hospital at the last muster roll of February 1865.

After the War

In 1900 he was farming at Stone Mountain, DeKalb County, GA, but by 1910 had retired and was living with his son Walter on a farm at Diamond, GA.
