Before Sharpsburg
From Spalding County, he enrolled on 28 April 1862 as 2nd Lieutenant of Company A, 53rd Georgia Infantry, and mustered as such on 12 May.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was in a hospital in Richmond, VA by 28 September and furloughed home. He was in a Richmond hospital again by 5 March 1863 and was examined by a medical board which recommended on 9 March 1863 that he resign because of deafness resulting from his injury at Sharpsburg. He did so on that date.
