From Henry County, he enlisted as a Private in Company F, 53rd Georgia Infantry on 2 April 1862 in Henry County.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the ankle and arm in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was in hospitals in Richmond in October 1862, and again, in Richmond and and Palmyra, VA for "disease of skin" or toxieum (poison?) from February into April 1863. He was retired for disability on 14 June 1864.
