Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 19 year old farmer on his widowed mother's place at Erin in Spalding County, GA. He enlisted as a Private in Company G, 53rd Georgia Infantry on 30 April 1862 at Haralson, GA.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was absent sick in hospitals in Richmond and Lynchburg, VA or on furlough after 25 September 1862. He was discharged for disability from lung disease at Lynchburg, VA on 18 April 1863.

After the War

By 1870 and to at least 1880 he was a farmer at Line Creek in Spalding County.
