Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 14 year old farm boy on his family's place at Haralson in Coweta County, GA. At age 16 he enlisted there as a Private in Company G, 53rd Georgia Infantry on 30 April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to a Richmond, VA hospital on 14 October and furloughed for 30 days on 29 October 1862. He was mortally wounded by a gunshot to his head at Cold Harbor, VA and died in a hospital in Richmond on 8 June 1864.
