He enlisted at Zebulon, Pike County, GA as a Private in Company H, 53rd Georgia Infantry on 5 May 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by a gunshot in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to a CS Army hospital in Richmond, VA on 27 September, furloughed on 8 October, and absent on a Surgeon's Certificate to at least August 1863, but was back on duty by February 1864. He was wounded again, in June 1864, and was listed as absent without leave in December 1864. He was a prisoner in February 1865, the last muster roll in his file.
