In 1860 he was an 18 year old farmer on his parents place in Fraleys District, Iredell County, NC. He enlisted a Private in Company C, 4th North Carolina Infantry on 7 June 1861 in Statesville.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of disease in Richmond, VA on 12 July 1864.
