Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 15 year old physician's son in the Grahams District, Iredell County, NC. He enlisted as a Private in Company C of the 4th North Carolina Infantry on 26 February (or 1 March) 1862 at Statesville, not yet 17 years old.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was wounded again, in the leg, and captured, at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863. He was held at Fort Delaware until he was sent to Point Lookout, MD on 18 October 1863. He was exchanged there (or at Cox's Landing, VA) on 18 (or 20) February 1865. He was among a detachment of ex-prisoners at Camp Lee near Richmond, VA by 23 February 1865 with no later military record.
After the War
He died, place and cause not known, on 18 December 1865, 21 years old.
