Before Sharpsburg
Age 18, from Wilson County, he enlisted as a Private in Company F of the 4th North Carolina Infantry on 28 June 1861 at New Bern, NC.
On the Campaign
He was captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was briefly a prisoner at Fort Delaware until sent to Aiken's Landing, VA on 2 October for exchange. He was formally exchanged on 10 November but he died in January 1863. His mother filed a claim for his final pay in June 1863.
