Before Sharpsburg
Age 29, from Beaufort County, he enlisted there as a Private in Company I of the 4th North Carolina Infantry on 25 June 1861 and was promoted to 4th Corporal on 5 December 1861.
On the Campaign
He was captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was briefly a prisoner at Fort Delaware, sent to Aiken's Landing, VA on 2 October for exchange, and was formally exchanged on 10 November. There is no later military record in his file.
After the War
By 1870 and to at least 1880 he was a farmer back in Richland Township, Beaufort County, NC.
