Before Antietam

A 19 year old farmer, he enlisted on 31 August 1861 at Upper Marion, and mustered as a Private in Company I, 51st Pennsylvania Infantry in Harrisburg on 28 September 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He enlisted in and transferred to Battery K, First United States Artillery on 25 October 1862 at Harpers Ferry, VA. He was captured, date and place not given, and held at the prison camp at Andersonville, GA, where he died of disease on 2 October 1864.
