Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 21 year old farm worker on his parent's place near Green Bank, Pocahontas County, VA. He enlisted there as a Private in Company G, 31st Virginia Infantry on 29 May 1861 along with his brother William.
On the Campaign
He was captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was paroled on 21 September 1862 at Sharpsburg but was listed as absent without leave in November 1862 with no later military record. He may have been promoted to Sergeant, date not given. He was killed at Romney, VA/WV in 1863.
