Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted as a Private, Company H (later D), 5th Alabama Infantry on 22 April 1861 at Tuscaloosa.
On the Campaign
He was captured, possibly wounded, in action near Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was paroled in Maryland on 1 October, was in a Richmond, VA hospital by the 13th, and was furloughed home on 22 October 1862. He was transferred to Company D, 2nd Alabama Cavalry on 23 January 1863 and served with them to at least October 1863, the last muster roll in his military file.
After the War
In 1880 he was the City Marshal in Northport, Tuscaloosa County, AL.
