He enlisted as a Private in Company F (later renamed E), 5th Alabama Infantry on 26 April 1861 at Livingston in Sumter County, Al.
On the Campaign
He was captured, possibly wounded, in action near Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was held at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aiken's Landing, VA for exchange (declared exchanged on 10 November). He was sick in a Richmond, VA hospital from 9 October to at least 2 April 1863. He was wounded in about October 1864 and sent home on furlough with no later military record.
