Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted as a Private in Company D (later renamed C), 5th Alabama Infantry on 29 July 1861 at Bell's Landing, AL. He was processed for a discharge for disability due to chronic gastritis in June 1862, but apparently stayed with his Company.
On the Campaign
He was captured in action near Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was held at Fort Delaware until paroled on 2 October, then sent to Aiken's Landing, VA for exchange. He was declared exchanged to return to duty on 10 November 1862. He was killed at Cold Harbor, VA on 2 June 1864.
