Before Sharpsburg

He'd gone to Alabama by about 1845 to work for the railroad and in 1860 was a 45 year old railroad conductor living at Auburn in Macon County, AL. He enlisted there as a Private in Company K, 12th Alabama Infantry on 10 July 1861. He was promoted to Sergeant by February 1862 and was appointed Captain by 1 June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in the chest in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds on 26 September 1862. His widow filed a claim for his final pay on 10 December 1863.

He married Susan Ann Cooper (c.1830-) and they had 5 or 6 children between about 1847 and 1860.
