He enlisted as a Private in Company D (later renamed C), 5th Alabama Infantry on 29 July 1861 at Bell's Landing, AL.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action near Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was held at Fort Delaware until paroled on 2 October, then sent to Aiken's Landing, VA for exchange. He was declared exchanged and eligible to return to duty on 10 November 1862, but may heave been on wounded furlough to as late as April 1863. He was captured again, at Gettysburg, PA in July 1863, held at Fort Delaware until 22 October 1863, then sent to Point Lookout, MD. He was transferred to the post hospital, Hammond General, in November 1864 with no later military record.
