Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted as a Private in Company F (later renamed E), 5th Alabama Infantry on 26 April 1861 at Livingston in Sumter County, AL.
On the Campaign
He was captured in action near Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was a prisoner at Fort Delaware until 2 October when he was sent to Aiken's Landing, VA for exchange. He was sick in a Richmond hospital to at least 5 November and was declared officially exchanged and eligible to return to duty on 10 November 1862. He was killed at Chancellorsville, VA on 3 May 1863.
