Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted as a Private in Company G (later renamed F), 5th Alabama Infantry on 25 July 1861 at Cahaba in Dallas County, AL. He was promoted to 4th Corporal by September 1862.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action near Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was a prisoner at Fort Delaware until 2 October when he was sent to Aiken's Landing, VA for exchange. He was declared exchanged on 10 November 1862. He was killed at Chancellorsville, VA on 3 May 1863.
