Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted as a Private in Company B (later renamed G), 5th Alabama Infantry, date not given. He was in a hospital at Orange Court House, VA with pneumonia from 6 December 1861 to 6 June 1862. He was wounded by a gunshot to the head about 25 June 1862, place not given, and in a hospital in Petersburg, VA to 4 August.
On the Campaign
He was captured in action near Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was a prisoner at Fort Delaware until 2 October when he was sent to Aiken's Landing, VA for exchange. He was declared exchanged on 10 November 1862. He was mortally wounded at Chancellorsville, VA on 3 May 1863 and died of wounds the next day at Richmond, VA.
