Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 21 year old clerk at Pickensville, AL. He enlisted as a Private in Company C (later renamed H), 5th Alabama Infantry on 20 April 1861 in Pickensville.
On the Campaign
He was captured in action near Turner's Gap on South Mountain (or at Middletown, MD) on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was a prisoner at Fort Delaware until 2 October when he was sent to Aiken's Landing, VA for exchange. He was declared exchanged on 10 November 1862. He was killed at Chancellorsville, VA on 3 May 1863. His father Nathaniel made a claim for his final pay in February 1864.
