Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 19 year old farmer on his parent's place near Chandler's Springs in Talladega County, AL. He enlisted as a Private in Company E (later renamed B), 5th Alabama Infantry on 1 May 1861 in Talladega County, AL. He was appointed Corporal by June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds at Winchester, VA on 8 October 1862. His father George W Willson applied for his final pay on 26 November 1862 and received $119.46 in November 1863.
