He enlisted as a Private in Company D (later renamed C), 5th Alabama Infantry on 13 or 15 March 1861 in Pensacola, FL (or Pineville, AL).

On the Campaign

He was wounded by a gunshot to his wrist or forearm, probably in action in Maryland in September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to Howard's Grove Hospital in Richmond, VA on 18 October and discharged on a certificate of disability on 13 November 1862.
