He enlisted as a Private in Company I (later renamed D), 5th Alabama Infantry on 13 April 1861 in Greensboro, Hale County, AL.

On the Campaign

He was probably wounded in action in Maryland in September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was in a Richmond, VA hospital on 23 September 1862 and furloughed home for 30 days. He was detailed to the Division as a courier from March 1863 through January 1864 and was on detail to the Commissary Department to at least October 1864. He was surrendered in May 1865 and paroled at Demopolis, AL on 9 June 1865.
