Age 21, he enlisted in Buffalo on 7 May 1861 to serve two years, and mustered in on 20 May as a Private in Company E, 21st New York Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the thigh in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was listed as a deserter from the hospital on 19 or 20 October 1862, and later dishonorably discharged from that date.
