Age 17, he enlisted as a Private in Company I, 13th Georgia Infantry on 11 January 1862 at Griffin, GA.

On the Campaign

He was slightly wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was captured at Spotsylvania, VA on 12 May 1864 and was a prisoner at Fort Delaware until transferred on 7 March 1865 to Boulware & Cox's Wharves, James River, VA where he was exchanged on 10-12 March 1865.

After the War

By 1870 he was a farmer in Newnan, Coweta County, GA. In 1880 he was farming in Henry County, GA, and by 1910 and to his death in 1920 he had a farm in Spalding County.

He married Martha E. Potts (1850-1869) in December 1867 in Coweta County. He married again, Martha Annie Weems (1844-1890) in December 1869 and they had 5 children. He married for the third time, Susannah A. Barfield (1848-1927) in November 1890.
