He enlisted as a Private in Company E, 13th Georgia Infantry on 4 March 1862 at Savannah, GA.

On the Campaign

He was seriously wounded in the foot in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

By 2 October he was in the CS Army's Union (Hotel?) Hospital in Winchester, VA. He was on detached service to Macon, GA from 19 December 1862 to 9 September 1863. By January 1864 and through at least September he was detailed as a nurse to a CS Army hospital in the Valley District of Virginia. He was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.
