Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was an 18 year old farm worker living with his parents and 3 siblings on the family farm near Griffin in Spalding County, GA. He enlisted there as a Private in Company B, 13th Georgia Infantry on 8 July 1861. He was probably appointed Sergeant by September 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded by a gunshot to his hand in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was in a hospital in Charlottesville, VA on 23 September and sent on to Lynchburg on the 24th. He was wounded again, by a gunshot to his left foot at Spotsylvania Court House, VA on 12 May 1864. He was furloughed from the Jackson Hospital in Richmond, VA on 23 May but was listed as absent without leave after 31 October 1864 and to 28 February 1865, the latest record in his military file.
After the War
By 1870, living next door to his parents, and to at least 1880, he was a farmer in Spalding County, GA. He was a mechanic in Griffin, GA at his death in 1898.
