Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 38 year old overseer on a farm near Luthersville, Meriwether County, GA. He enlisted as a Private in Company B, 13th Georgia Infantry on 3 March 1862 in Savannah, GA.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was appointed 3rd Sergeant on 18 July 1863, and was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.
After the War
By 1880 he was a laborer in St. Clair, AL. He joined the Bradley County Arkansas Camp of the United Confederate Veterans on their organization on 4 July 1895.

He married Mary Pollard (1823-1899) in November 1840 and they had 6 children by 1849.
His firstborn, son John T Colley (b 1842), was also in Company B and wounded at Sharpsburg, but was killed at Spotsylvania in 1864. His next son, William Franklin Colley (b 1846) enlisted in Company B on 8 February 1864 and was killed near Harpers Ferry, VA on 7 July 1864.
