Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 19 year old on his parent's farm at Zebulon in Pike County, GA. He enlisted as a Private in Company D, 13th Georgia Infantry on 31 August 1861 in Richmond, VA.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was on furlough from 19 September to 23 December 1862. He was wounded again, with a "severe concussion" at Gettysburg, PA on 1 July 1863 and captured there. He was a prisoner at the DeCamp General Hospital in New York Harbor and was paroled there on 24 August. He was in a Petersburg, VA hospital on 28 August and was probably furloughed on 7 September 1863.
He was wounded for the third time, by a gunshot to his left shoulder, and again captured, at Monocacy Junction, MD on 10 July 1864. He was treated at a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD to 5 August then in the West's Buildings hospital in Baltimore to 25 October, when he was transferred to Point Lookout, Maryland. He was sent to Venus Point, Savannah River, GA for exchange on 15 November 1864 and was at home on wounded furlough as of 28 February 1865, the latest military record.
After the War
By 1870 and to at least 1880 he was a farmer at Perry in Houston County, GA. He moved to Reynolds in Macon County by 1902 and was a miler there.
