Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 16 year old farm boy on his parent's place near Dawson in Terrell County, GA. He enlisted as a Private in Company H, 13th Georgia Infantry on 12 August 1861 at Richmond, VA.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by a gunshot through the last joint of the middle finger of his left hand in action at Sharpsburg, MD on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was in a Richmond, VA hospital by 27 September and furloughed for 30 days on 3 October 1862. He was wounded again, near Fredericksburg, VA on 4 May 1863. He was on detached duty as a guard at Jackson Hospital, Richmond by 2 February and was back with his Company by the end of 1864.

After the War

By 1870 he was farmer near Dawson in Terrell County.
