In 1860 he was a 16 year old student living on his parent's large farm in Heard County, GA. He enlisted as a Private in Company K, 13th Georgia Infantry on 8 July 1861 in Griffin, GA.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg, MD on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was on wounded furlough to 4 March 1863 and was killed in the Wilderness, VA on 5 May 1864.
