He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg, MD on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was on wounded furlough from 14 October to 20 December 1862. He was captured at Spotsylvania Court House, VA on 12 May 1864 and died of "Congst [congestion of the] Lungs" while a prisoner at Fort Delaware on 27 November 1864.
