Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 17 year old on his parent's large farm in LaGrange, Mountville District, Troup County, GA. He enlisted as a Private in Company K, 13th Georgia Infantry, on 8 July 1861 in Griffin, GA but was discharged for disability on 6 October 1861. He reenlisted on 10 January 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg, MD on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was on wounded furlough to 16 January 1863 and was then detailed as a Brigade courier through at least November 1863. He was furloughed home to LaGrange for "emaciation and debility" from March 1864 to at least May 1864.

After the War

In 1870 he was a farm worker living with his parents in LaGrange.

He married Susan S. Benson (1848-1869) and they had a daughter Susan in 1869. He married again, her sister Sarah P. "Sallie" Benson (1852-1930) and they had a daughter Devana A. Kidd (1871-1956) - likely named for Company K's Lieutenant, later Captain, Divany A Kidd (relative?, killed 1865).
