In 1860 he was a 21 year old worker on his parents large farm at Waynmanville in Upson County, GA. He enlisted as a Private in Company D, 13th Georgia Infantry in July 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg, MD on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

There is no later record in his military file.

After the War

By 1870 and to at least 1910 he was a farmer at in Upson County.

He married Martha Amelia "Mattie" Lyon (1847-1875) in February 1864 and they had 5 children. He married again, Etta Virginia Nelson (1856-1891) in October 1875 and they had 6 more. He married for the third time Sallie E Hobbs (1854-1910) in January 1899.
