Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 19 year old farmer on his newly-widowed mother Martha's place at Rocky Mount in Meriwether County, GA. He enlisted as a Private in Company B, 13th Georgia Infantry on 8 July 1861 in Griffin, GA.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by a gunshot to his arm in action at Sharpsburg, MD on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was in a hospital in Richmond, VA on 23 September and sent on to Lynchburg on the 24th and was afterward on furlough into February 1863. He was captured at Crampton's Gap, MD on the return from Gettysburg on 6 July 1863 and died while a prisoner at Fort Delaware on 6 October 1863.
