Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 31 year old mechanic living on the Ephraim Wicher farm near Cuthbert in Randolph County, GA. He enlisted as a Private in Company E, 13th Georgia Infantry on 8 July 1861 at Griffin, GA.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg, MD on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was on wounded furlough to 31 December 1862 then rejoined his Company. He was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.

After the War

By 1870 and to at least 1880 he was a farmer on his own place at Cuthbert.

He married Susan Bush (1850-1917) in May 1869 and they had two daughters.
